Intellectual Property (IP) and Commercialisation
Intellectual Property (IP) originates from the research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities of University academics and post-graduate research students. It also originates through collaborations with partner organisations such as businesses, universities and public sector organisations.
By working in partnership with these organisations, Bangor University identifies new IP, know-how and technology from University research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities and turns it into a commercial reality. This successful exploitation of IP, known as commercialisation, is either through licensing or spin-out company creation.
Licencing |
Bangor University actively promotes exploitation of its research outputs. This is frequently done through licensing of its IP to businesses and organisations. For more information please contact Gareth Mayhead, gmayhead@bangor.ac.uk. |
Spinouts |
In some cases, a new company may be set up to exploit the University’s research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities and in this case the IP is licensed to the new company. In recent years the University has spun out several companies which are at different levels of development. For more information please contact Gareth Mayhead, gmayhead@bangor.ac.uk. |
