Overview

Bydd tair rhan i'r cwrs:

Rhan I Yn y rhan gyntaf edrychir ar hanes cynnar y Gymraeg gan roi sylw penodol i'r materion a ganlyn: 1. Y Celtiaid a'r Ieithoedd Celtaidd; 2. Y Frythoneg a'r Gymraeg; 3. Ffynonellau cynharaf yr iaith.

Rhan II Yn yr ail ran cynigir arolwg o'r berthynas rhwng cyweiriau llafar a llenyddol yr iaith, gan roi sylw penodol i'r materion a ganlyn: 1. Tafodieithoedd y Gymraeg; 2. Y broses o safoni iaith; 3. Dwylosia a'r Gymraeg.

Rhan III Yn y drydedd ran archwilir cyd-destun cymdeithasol a gwleidyddol yr iaith yn ystod y 19g., sef y ganrif fwyaf trawsnewidiol yn hanes y Cymry. Rhoddir sylw i'r materion a ganlyn: 1. Y Gymraeg, crefydd a'r wasg yn y 19g. 2. Y Gymraeg a'r Chwyldro Diwydiannol; 3. Addysg a seicoleg iaith.

Bydd y modiwl hwn yn olrhain amryfal agweddau ar hanes y Gymraeg o’i chyfnodau cynharaf hyd at y cyfnod diweddar. Cyflwynir y myfyrwyr i’r ymchwil ddiweddaraf sy’n ymwneud â datblygiad y Gymraeg yn y cyfnod ôl-Rufeinig a'i pherthynas â’r ieithoedd Celtaidd; trafodir hefyd y ffynonellau cynharaf sy’n tystio i fodolaeth yr iaith. Cynigir arolwg o’r berthynas rhwng tafodieithoedd y Gymraeg a’i chyweiriau ysgrifenedig, ac anelir hefyd at amlinellu’r grymoedd cymdeithasol, gwleidyddol ac economaidd a bennodd hynt y Gymraeg, yn enwedig yn ystod y 19g.

  • Lleoli'r Gymraeg oddi mewn i'r teulu ieithyddol Celtaidd.

  • Meddu ar drawsolwg gynhwysfawr o hynt y Gymraeg ar hyd y canrifoedd.

  • Trafod rhai o'r prif gyfnewidiadau a barodd i'r Frythoneg esgor ar y Gymraeg.
