The main aim of this module is to develop a greater understanding of some of the key activities and functions associated with establishing and managing a business. The specific aims are: 1. To review the legal bases of different types of business 2. To consider the nature and impact of different styles of management/leadership 3. To introduce students to the fields of operations management and organisational behaviour including a detailed understanding of key developments within the area 4. To consider how change is introduced and managed within businesses

Different types of businesses, ownership models, legal bases, shareholders And stakeholders, social and environmental responsibilities Introduction to Organisational Behaviour, including psychological contract, culture and OB Approaches to management theory, classical management, scientific management, bureaucracy, HR approach, Systems approach, other international approaches e.g. Japanese Leadership, including power and leadership, styles of leadership, Vroom and Yetton contingency model, transformational leadership Introduction to operations management, transformation process, performance objectives, operations strategy, JIT, TQM Managing change including drivers of change, meaning of organisational culture, cultural analysis models, the role of HR in managing change
