MSc Language Technologies
Modiwlau Blwyddyn 1
The student must take a minimum of 180
credits from the modules in Year 1. The MSc in Language
Technologies offers academic pathways designed for graduates
with different backgrounds. You must complete a minimum of
180 credits across three semesters. This may result in a
50/70 or 70/50 split over the first two semesters with a 60
credit dissertation over the summer. Computer Science
graduates (or graduates of related technical degrees) should
take QXL-4411, QXL-4432, ICE-4211, ICE-4721 and QXL-4480 or
QCL-4480 and select one other module from the list of
modules available, and select a dissertation option.
Linguistics graduates (or graduates of a closely related
humanities area) should take QXL-4432 (or QXL-4933),
ICE-4101, QXL-4480 and ICE-4721 and QXL-4480 or QCL-4480 and
select two other modules from the list of modules available,
and select a dissertation option. Check current
availability when planning your module selection.
Research Methods: Students with a BA in Linguistics may be
exempt from QXL-4432 Linguistics Research Methods and should
take QXL-4933 Advanced Linguistics Research Methods instead.

Core Equivalent modules
Students who have a BA or BSc in
Linguistics or a closely related subject may be eligible to
be exempt from taking QXL-4432 and should take QXL-4933:
Advanced Linguistics Research Methods instead. The choice of
which research module is appropriate should be discussed
with their personal tutor.
