Bangor academic leads Dutch knowledge exchange visit to Liverpool

Dr Koen Bartels, Lecturer in Management Studies, recently led a knowledge exchange visit by representatives of City District Amsterdam-West to Liverpool.

The Dutch cohort – a mixture of municipal officials, youth workers, truancy officers and social entrepreneurs – visited various communities and organisations in the Liverpool area to look at new ways of working in and with their own communities back home.

Dr Bartels, who was awarded an ESRC Impact Acceleration Account Small Fund to co-ordinate the visit, facilitated the group in comparing practices, experiences, and daily conditions with British colleagues and residents. With increasing pressures for innovation in local governance, the aim was to encourage the visitors to reflect on what it takes to make a real, sustainable difference to the lives of their local people and areas.
