As well as securing a higher national ranking than in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (8th in the UK), 100% of the research material submitted was rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent. Research areas covered a broad range of areas including Enhanced Coaching and Training practices in sport, health, and military practices worldwide and research into public policy on sport and physical activity (in conjunction with Cardiff Metropolitan University).

Staff are committed to maintaining this high quality research but are equally passionate about their teaching and professional support to students. The research they undertake is directly applicable to what they teach on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. They are also in demand to provide support to elite athletes, national squads, the military and industry.
