Arrangements can be made where possible to accommodate individual requests from students which are disability related.

We currently have adapted rooms in our portfolio which include wheelchair accessible rooms for students with mobility difficulties. Larger shower rooms are included in these en suite rooms with handrails and shower seat, and the kitchens also contain adaptations for wheelchair users. You may view a typical accessible room here.
Other students with limited mobility can be allocated ground floor rooms or rooms in halls which have lifts. There is a pager system available for students who have hearing loss to alert them in the event of an emergency in Halls and vibrating pillows are also available in some rooms together with flashing lights connected to the alarm systems.
If you discuss your needs with us as early as possible we can try and match your requirements to suitable accommodation. If further adaptations are needed we can arrange these, within a reasonable timeframe, hence it is important that you contact us as early as possible if you have special circumstances.

If you will require a live-in carer we can arrange to accommodate this person next door to you but you must let us know that this is required when you make your application.
Even though you will have discussed your requirements with a Disability Adviser please make sure that you mention with your application any medical or any other condition which needs to be taken into account in the allocation of your accommodation. You should indicate such requirements when you make your online application, even if they would not apply if you were allocated a room in a hall of your choice. Sometimes students are not successful with their application for the room of their choice but if we know in advance that you require a certain type of room we will be able to help. We normally require written confirmation from a medical practitioner or other professional body to support your application but if you have already provided this information to the Disability Services team there is no need to send anything to the Halls Office.
If you forget to tell us anything important we may not be able to change your allocation at a later date.
Disability-related information is used only to determine the allocation of suitable accommodation and we will try our best to provide this. However we cannot guarantee that suitable facilities will always be available. We would encourage disabled students and those with long-term health conditions, such as epilepsy or diabetes, to contact the Disability Adviser as above and to mention this when they make their online application.
