About This Course
This three-year, part-time master’s course is delivered fully online. Our course has been designed for those who want to build strong skills in teaching mindfulness with confidence and use it in meaningful ways in their work.
The course is useful for many areas, including:
- education

- workplaces
This course will give you the tools to teach contemplative approaches in ways that are trauma-sensitive, safe, inclusive, and suited to real-life situations.
The course combines:

- your own mindfulness practice

- leading groups
- teaching through reflection and discussion
- clear communication
- trauma-sensitive practice
- teaching mindfulness approaches in complex real-world settings
By the end of the course, you will be ready to teach mindfulness in a professional and responsible way.
Course Content
What will you study on this course?
The course is fully online, enabling you to study around work and other commitments.
You will learn through:
- live online sessions
- recorded lectures
- workshops
- group discussions
- practical teaching sessions (teach-backs)
- one-to-one tutorials

Year 1:
- Foundations of Practice
- Essentials of Teaching
Year 2:
- Applied Teaching
Year 3:
- Teaching Project (includes an 8-day online teacher training retreat)
Each year, you can also choose to attend a meditation retreat of several days duration at Bangor University, either in person or online – a powerful way to deepen your practice.
There are no traditional exams on this course as the focus of the course is on building real skills you can use. You will be assessed through a combination of academic and reflective essays, presentations, and demonstrations of your mindfulness teaching practice.

Entry Requirements
An undergraduate or postgraduate degree is normally required. Applications from those with relevant professional, practical, or life experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Applications from those who have completed a teacher-led contemplative mindfulness-based course, in which meditation practices are taught over a period of 6-8 weeks. Intensive courses (e.g., over a period of several days) are also accepted.
A regular contemplative meditation practice for at least six months before starting the programme.
IT requirements: students must have a computer in good working order and access to strong internet connection and the IT skills required to use these systems.
We welcome applications from international students, and require a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent).

Application
Our system is open all year round to apply.
If we fill the course for a particular year we will then close applications for that year and make that clear on our website.
We start interviewing around January each year.
Please note that this course is part-time and so will not enable students to get a student visa to the UK. International students who apply will have to independently arrange visas to allow them to attend the teaching days over a 3-5 year period.
