Details of our facilities and equipment:
Physical Activity for Health and Wellbeing Centre (Canolfan PAWB Centre):
- Teaching Lab - a large new teaching lab allowing for more hands-on testing by students;
- Two exercise physiology testing and rehabilitation research laboratories.
Other Facilities:
-
Two research physiology labs including:
-
an environmental chamber - to measure reactions when a body undergoes extreme conditions. Temperature can be varied up to 40º and down to -20º, plus 5-95% variations in humidity at temperatures above 10º;
-
an altitude/hypoxia chamber – allows manipulation of the environment from 21% oxygen (0 m/sea level) to 7% oxygen (8,000 m). It controls temperature and humidity accurate to 0.1oC and 1%, respectively. The School also has two portable units with a tent system to allow 'at home' altitude training, sleeping and acclimatisation.
-
-
Cardiovascular and psychophysiology testing laboratories;
-
Psychology testing labs for computer-based testing of psychological processes and a social psychology/live-in laboratory;
-
Psychomotor experimental rooms and 3D motion analysis laboratory - equipped with a 12 camera passive marker system to video for analysis of whole body movement, and an active marker system to allow for the videoing and analysis of smaller, part body movements;
-
Biochemistry and cell biology laboratories;
-
a water immersion laboratory;
-
a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scanner - to provide measurements of tissue composition and seen as the gold standard for measuring body composition.
Also on site are library facilities, computing rooms, 'The Bistro' snack bar and sports centre.
