Information about these workshops
These workshops will educate delegates about the principles of health inequality and the relationship between health equity and human rights. The workshops will cover the principles and definitions of health inequalities and how they can be measured and studied. The advanced workshop will delve more deeply into how policies at national and local levels aim to address health inequalities and the use of Health Impact Assessment (HIAs) to address health inequalities. Delegates will be given practical guidance on how to translate this knowledge into their own practice. The workshops will include a range of guest speakers from Public Health Wales, and will provide real world examples from Wales and across the world.
Information about the facilitator
Chris Emmerson is a Specialty Registrar in Public Health. His recent projects have included research into the impact of COVID-19 on care homes in Wales and leading development of Cardiff and Vale’s Suicide and Self Harm Strategy. Prior to joining the training programme, his experience included Public Health Wales’ Substance Misuse Programme and front line work within harm reduction and homelessness settings in London and Cardiff.
Public Health Wales (PHW) is the national public health agency for Wales and one of the 11 organisations making up NHS Wales. The overall vision for the organisation is ‘to work to protect and improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities for the people of Wales’. PHW achieves this by supporting the full range of public health activity, including health protection, health improvement, policy development and research and evaluation.
We recommend that delegates attend the Introductory workshop before the Advanced workshop, however this is not compulsory - Delegates are welcome to register for either of the workshops or both.
