Archive of the month
Last Summer, you may recall that a Grade II listed building, Plas Gwyn near Pentraeth on Anglesey, came up for sale.
This was of particular interest to the Archives and Special Collections since we hold the papers of the Plas Gwyn estate which date from the late 15th century to the early 19th century.
Later in the year, a friend of the Archives, kindly donated 2 photograph albums to the University. They belonged to Claud E. Vivian of Plas Gwyn, date to the 1890s-1900s and contain some truly fantastic images of family members, local scenes and national events.
This photograph of an early wheelchair pulled by a donkey was taken in 1898 outside the Anglesey Georgian mansion.
The Archives and Special Collections of Bangor University is responsible for the care and storage of the early College Records as well as archival and rare printed material. All of our manuscript collections are bound by one common factor, their relevance to the history, people and topography of North Wales. However, their subject areas are wide ranging and are of national as well as local historical interest.
