Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies (IMEMS)
Director: Prof. Raluca Radulescu
The Institute builds on excellence in Arts and Humanities research at Aberystwyth and Bangor and will take a multidisciplinary approach to the study of the medieval and early modern periods. Please visit the website.

Centre for Contemporary Poetry (ContemPo)

The Centre for Contemporary Poetry (informally known as ‘ContemPo’) is a collaborative, cross-institutional research centre founded in 2006, and run by the English departments of Aberystwyth University, Bangor University, the University of Brighton and the University of Surrey.

Centre for Research on Bilingualism
Director: Dr Marie-Josèphe Tainturier (School of Psychology)
This Centre is located entirely within Bangor University and operate across a number of Schools and Colleges. Research in the field of bilingualism draws on several disciplines, including linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, education, sociology, economics, and political science.

Centre for Film, Television and Screen Studies

Co-directors: Dr Gregory Frame, Prof. Steven Price, Prof. Pwyll ap SionThis newly founded Centre brings together scholars from disciplines across Bangor University who teach and research various aspects of film, television and screen studies, to share methodological ideas and work on collaborative research projects. Responding to the changing nature of these disciplines - whereby important work is increasingly conducted outside traditional Film Studies departments - our purpose is to facilitate this collaboration, coordinate teaching, develop postgraduate provision, provide a platform from which to secure funding, and, increase the visibility and reach of our research. R.S. Thomas Study Centre
Co-directors: Prof. Jason Walford Davies (School of Welsh) and Prof. Tony Brown
The Centre was officially opened by R.S. Thomas in April 2000. Its archive contains all of R.S. Thomas’s published works, together with a comprehensive collection of reviews, critical books and articles, interviews and audio-visual material. This material is available to visiting scholars.

Centre for Arthurian Studies
Director: Prof. Raluca Radulescu
This newly founded centre highlights the wealth of expertise and long-standing tradition in researching and teaching the Arthurian legend at Bangor since the inception of the university in 1884. The Centre brings together Bangor's Arthurian collection as well as the former Flintshire Harries Arthurian collection, which arrived at Bangor in 2014/2015. It is a hub for exchange and collaboration across several departments in the university, and with external partners.

The Stephen Colclough Centre for the History and Culture of the Book is an interdisciplinary centre for the advanced study of the past, present and future of the book as material artefact, and of the cultures that surround it. Working in collaboration with colleagues at Bangor and beyond, the Centre’s purpose is twofold: to enhance and broaden our understanding of the book’s place within cultural, social and economic practices, and to develop our understanding of the material book as cultural commodity, conveyer of knowledge, and object of desire. The Institute for European Finance
The Institute for European Finance provides specialist consultancy and project reports to banks, financial services firms, trade associations, governments, international organisations and public sector organisations. It has wide experience of analysing the external economic and business environment that affects strategic planning, international competitiveness and public policy within the banking and financial sector.

A repository of recorded musical and verbal forms which are perpetuated in the oral tradition rather than through writing or printing. Primarily a research, teaching and training centre, the Archive endeavours to serve educational institutions and the general public.

Financial Services: Competition, Conduct, and Consumer Protection (CCC) Research Cluster
The management and conduct of financial services providers in the past decade, culminating in the financial crisis of 2008 onward, resulted in an appetite for strengthened regulation in the sector. However, despite the activities of regulatory bodies such as the FCA in the UK, doubts persist over the extent to which financial markets are working in the interests of users, and society in general. The CCC research group draws upon Bangor’s established and respected reputation as a leader in Banking and Finance research to approach several key issues in financial regulation. The Centre, founded in 2006, co-ordinated the activities of music staff engaged in research on music before 1700 – a concentration of specific excellence unequalled in any other institution in the UK.

The Centre for Medieval Studies played an important role in fostering collaboration and scholarly exchange in Medieval Studies at Bangor and further afield, and, by extension, promoted teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level and encouraged initiatives involving more than one department.

The Centre for East Asian Studies
Founded in 2014, the Centre engaged with scholars from across the university and beyond in the development and enhancement of Bangor’s engagement with the East Asian region. The Centre was highly interdisciplinary and promoted innovative, cross-cultural and dynamic research in the broad field of East Asian Studies. The Director of the Centre, Dr Kate Taylor-Jones, is now a member of staff in the School of East Asian Studies, University of Sheffield.

The Digital Economies Cluster
Established in 2010, Bangor University's Digital Economies Cluster was an initiative of the College of Arts, Humanities and Business in collaboration with the School of Computer Science to foster research expertise and networking within and beyond the College and University in the area of Digital Economies. Professor Astrid Ensslin, Convenor of the group, is now a Professor of Media and Communications affiliated with the University of Alberta, Canada.
