About This Course
This is a part-time, level 7 short course delivered on our Bangor campus, with some online delivery (blended learning method).
Who is this course for?
This module is aimed at healthcare professionals, including, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapist, radiography, and allied health professionals from other professions, who have responsibility for patient care, leadership, quality & safety.
Why study this course?
This short course will provide learners with the opportunity to critically evaluate the organisation and wider contexts for improving quality in health and social care context from different theoretical and methodological perspectives.
The short course content also provides learners with the opportunity to identify, apply and critically evaluate strategies and interventions to support improvements in the quality of health and social care.
Through action learning, learners will be encouraged to reflect and learn from their own leadership challenges and facilitation skills employed in their professional work.
How long does this course take to complete?
This short course is usually delivered over 11 weeks during semester 1 of the academic year, and includes:
- 9 x afternoons of face-to face lectures (on our Bangor campus, once a week over 9 weeks)
- 2 x one hour online evening sessions (over 2 weeks)
- self-directed study

- Contribution of 1,000 words to the discussion forums (within 11 weeks of the module start date).
- Essay (3,000 words). Submitted within 19 weeks of the course start date.
Course Content
What will you study on this course?
This short course will provide learners with the opportunity to critically evaluate the organisation and wider contexts for improving quality in health and social care context from different theoretical and methodological perspectives.

What will attendees get out of the course?
By the end of this short course, learners will be able to:
- Analyse and critically discuss the contribution of a range of disciplines to the theory and practice of leading quality improvements in order for the learner to be able to select the most appropriate tools to achieve improvement outcomes
- Critically examine the learner’s own role, the role of other individuals, the organisation and wider context in shaping quality improvement in order to lead effectively and deliver quality improvements in service delivery
- Evaluate the application of theory to demonstrate the practical skills necessary to lead the engagement of a multidisciplinary team in the improvement of health and social care in order for the learner to have an understanding of the risks and risk management required to deliver effective, efficient and acceptable quality improvements
- Explore and critically review the management of change process involved in the delivery of improvements in order for the learner to be able to lead change in the most appropriate manner and to realise the benefits from improvement
- Review and critically evaluate techniques & tools employed in the process of leading quality and improvement in health and social care

Applicants will require an undergraduate BSc degree at 2:2 or higher from a recognised Higher Education Institution

To apply for this course, you need to create an account in our APPLICANT PORTAL
You will need access to the email address you specify while creating your account to confirm it.
After creating an account, you will see a homepage with several tabs:

You need to complete all sections before submitting your application.
When a section is complete, a ‘tick’ symbol will appear below it
- Click on ‘Non-graduating applications / Stand alone Modules’, then select ‘Non-graduating Postgraduate Taught’.
- In the next section, select Non-Graduating Taught Modules in Health(NGGT/HEALTH) Click Save and Continue.
- On the next page, the default for the first question is Full Time. You need to change this to ‘Part time’:
- You now need to input the module code. Leadership in Context: the code is NHS:4380. This section must be completed for your application to be processed.
- You also need to state the start date. Please make your selection, then click ‘Save and Continue’.
- IMPORTANT: You do not need to write a personal statement to apply for this course. Instead, please upload the document including employment, experience and education information that you have created prior to starting the application that contains the name of your current employer, the number of years of experience you have, and your highest qualification to date. Click Save and continue.
You only need to enter the details of your highest qualification to date, e.g. if you have a postgraduate qualification, please only only include this.
You will be asked for evidence of the qualification. Please either upload a copy of your qualification if it's easily accessible, or upload the Word document again (that you prepared earlier).
