BA Fine Art Degree Show 2022
18 - 29 May 2022 (Close 23rd May)
This exhibition not only celebrates a culmination of the students’ hard work and creative achievements, it also marks the final degree show at Bangor University.
The 6-year part-time course was set up in 1998 aimed at adult learners with previous life experiences and careers. It was the first in the UK to offer a community-based art degree and commended by UAL for innovation and excellence. Over the years teaching took place in a wide variety of venues across North Wales, from Bangor and Ynys Môn to Penrhyn Bay and Porthmadog. The lack of traditional facilities and structures demanded innovative teaching practices to enable students to have the kind of high-quality learning experience that they needed and deserved. The underlying principle was to support students to develop a sustainable practice in their own homes and localities so the embedded nature of their practice would continue seamlessly as professional artists after graduation.
Modules consisted of visiting artists, gallery visits, seminars and individual tuition by practising artists and plenty of practical studio activity. The course created opportunities for students to realise their potential on an individual basis developing personal creativity within a contemporary context.
Celebrating Fine Art
Artwork by 27 tutors who have taught on the course will gather for a celebratory farewell exhibition in Storiel, Bangor 9 July – 1 October 2022.
