"The buddy scheme built a bridge for me to make friends with native speakers"- Xuefeng Shi, China

"It bridges the gap between native students and international students … it’s a good way of meeting people you wouldn’t always get a chance of meeting" - David Harris, UK

The ELCOS Buddy Scheme

However, the Students' Union offer an excellent programme of events to help you fit in and make new friends.

The ELCOS Buddy Scheme pairs international and UK students, so that both have a chance to make new friends and learn from each other.

If you’re a student on the 42-week, 30-week or 20-week pre-sessional course, having a buddy is a great way to make British friends, practise your English, share your own culture and learn more about student life in Bangor.

If you’re a UK student, taking part in the Buddy Scheme gives you an opportunity to make international friends, learn about other cultures, and share your own. You’ll also be helping your international buddy settle into Bangor life.

The Buddy Scheme is about friendship and fun. It also helps you to develop cross-cultural communication skills and other skills that may be important in your future career. Bangor Employability Award recognises the Buddy Scheme and awards 5 BEA points to all participants who complete a full semester.
