Cydymaith i Gerddoriaeth Cymru (The Companion to Welsh Music)
The Cydymaith i Gerddoriaeth Cymru (Companion to Welsh Music) project is an exciting collaborative venture that will lead to the publication of a Welsh-medium reference book encompassing all aspects of music in Wales in a holistic, wide-ranging, definitive and authoritative manner. It will include entries ranging from early music to contemporary music, from the traditional to the modern, from folk music to pop music, from singers, musicians and notable events to opera singers, orchestras, and film and television soundtracks.
It is hoped that the Companion will become a milestone for Welsh music academia, drawing together expertise from various institutions, and reflecting the wide range of leading research into all aspects of music in Wales.
The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol (Welsh Federal College) awarded a grant to support and develop the publication. An academic administrator and deputy manager was appointed for the project, and an editorial board was founded, comprising academics with expertise across the spectrum. A successful conference was also held at the National Library of Wales in February 2012 to promote the publication.
