Postgraduate Entry Requirements

Masters Programmes (MA/MSc/MBA)

Entry to any of our taught postgraduate courses (MA/MSc/MBA) usually requires a good first degree or equivalent from a university or another approved degree-awarding body, in a relevant subject (such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business or Management). Alternatively, possession of a suitable professional qualification or relevant practical experience may be accepted. In general, all applicants are judged on their individual merits – work experience and other factors are also considered.

English language: if your native language is not English, you must provide satisfactory evidence that you have an adequate knowledge and understanding of written and spoken English. For postgraduate taught programmes we require:

  • IELTS: overall score of 6.0 (with no element below 5.5.)
  • Pearson PTE: a score of 56 (with no element lower than 51)
  • Cambridge English Test – Advanced: 169 (with no element lower than 162)

Research Programmes (MPhil/PhD)

For PhD: Masters degree in a relevant subject. Normally, a Distinction in your Masters degree is a requirement.

For MPhil: First or upper-second class degree in a relevant subject, such as Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business or Management.

If your native language is not English, you must provide satisfactory evidence that you have an adequate knowledge and understanding of written and spoken English:

  • IELTS: 7.0 (with no individual score lower than 6.5)
  • Pearson PTE: 67 (with no individual score lower than 62)
  • Cambridge English Test – Advanced/Proficiency: 185 (with no individual score lower than 176)

International Students

Further detailed information about our entry requirements for candidates from countries worldwide are available on the International Pages.

If your native language is not English, you must provide satisfactory evidence that you have an adequate knowledge and understanding of written and spoken English. It may be necessary for applicants falling short of the minimum required standard to attend an intensive English Language course before registering for the academic programme.

International Incorporated Masters

The International Incorporated Masters are designed for students who do not qualify for direct entry onto Bangor Business School’s Masters programmes. This could be because of the grades achieved in your bachelor degree; your current qualifications are not equivalent to a UK Bachelor degree; or because you have a non-Business background.

Stage 1 of the International Incorporated Masters is delivered at Bangor International College, and focuses on equipping you with knowledge of business-related subjects, and the advanced study and English language skills you will need to complete your postgraduate qualification. Upon successful completion of Stage 1, you will progress onto your chosen Masters programme.
