Bangor University leads Welsh Universities in student satisfaction

Bangor University is top in Wales in the most recent measure of student satisfaction, and is in the top 10 of the UK’s best non-specialist universities, the traditional institutions who offer a broad range of subjects.

The results are drawn from the National Student Survey, a poll of around half a million graduating students at each university in the UK, which provides the most comprehensive feedback on the student experience at each institution.

Professor Oliver Turnbull, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning at Bangor University commented on the results, saying:

“Bangor has a 130-year tradition of providing excellent teaching and student care, and this is borne out by these wonderful results. We're particularly delighted that the poll places us so clearly as top in Wales. We've recently introduced initiatives to give students a stronger voice in the University, and the success of our approach is reflected in these results".

As well as topping the overall table in Wales, the graduates ranked Bangor top in almost all the vital sub-categories, such as the quality of teaching on their course, assessment and feedback, academic support, and for course organisation and management. He added: “The data should provide valuable information to prospective students, and inspires us to do even better this coming year".

Bangor University now also lies joint 7th among the UK’s non-specialist universities. Especially notable is that Bangor lies 3rd amongst these UK universities for satisfaction with academic support, and scores well for students’ ability to contact staff when they needed to (5th in UK), and for fairness of assessment arrangements and marking (7th).

Prof. Turnbull added:

“These results are a wonderful endorsement of our activities, and of our values. When we compare our University with others teaching a broad range of higher education subjects, it's terrific that we are top 10 in the UK, and in overall satisfaction that we now lie level with other traditional universities such as Glasgow, Durham, and indeed both Oxford and Cambridge. It's a position which again reflects the excellent standard of teaching available at Bangor".
