Sports at Bangor

After today's government announcement, all sports facilities will close on December 23rd until further notice. This includes the gym, sports halls and the outdoor pitches at Treborth. We will update as soon as we have further information.

As many of you are aware, Canolfan Brailsford is still providing a service to the NHS as a Rainbow Hospital. At the moment this is likely to be in place until at least March 2021. Bangor University Sport have been working hard behind the scenes to provide some physical activity facilities to our customers.

Temporary Gym

We will be opening our temporary gym on the Ffriddoedd Site on Monday, September 21st. This facility will include approximately 70 fitness stations and utilise the same equipment that was installed in Canolfan Brailsford.

Currently the maximum number of people permitted in an indoor exercise space is 30 and customers will need to book slots in advance.

Fitness Classes

We will also be aiming to restart our fitness classes programme from Monday October 5th with a programme of approximately 25 classes.

Due to new facilities and limited numbers in classes, there will be some changes to the programme that was offered before the start of the pandemic. Click here to see the timetable.

Outdoor Facilities

We have already opened our outdoor facilities at Treborth whilst complying with current government guidance. Sports taking place include Football and Athletics for pre-booked, organised groups only.

Indoor sport facilities

Although Canolfan Brailsford won’t be available for some time, we will be operating a limited indoor sport offer in the evenings and weekends from Coleg Menai and Normal Site. Only organised group activities will be taking place once we re-open and those groups would have to adhere to the relevant Welsh government or national governing bodies’ regulations at that time. These groups should make contact in advance to get the necessary documents and procedures in place.

Unfortunately, due to provision of educational activities there won’t be any availability for indoor sports during the day during Monday to Friday.

Students Sport

Athletic Union sports clubs have been allocated training slots where facilities allow in consultation with the Student Union. These have a provisional start date of Monday 21st September. However each individual club/activity must adhere to their national governing bodies’ guidelines applicable at this time – this means it may not be possible for all clubs to restart on this date.
