Enterprise by Design teaches students skills and techniques for successful development of new products and systems in an interdisciplinary context. Students will work in multidisciplinary teams to co-develop fitness criteria and solutions for a real-world problem. By alternating between group work conducted in discipline-specific and interdisciplinary teams students will develop a shared understanding of the user’s needs and build and illustrate that understanding through the co-development of prototypes.
Students will attend workshops in both discipline-specific and multidisciplinary groups culminating in the Enterprise by Design Final Presentation where they will present their product idea at a public pitch event, together with a showcase of project prototypes and artefacts at the associated exhibition.
Equivalent to 40%. Uses key areas of theory or knowledge to meet the Learning Outcomes of the module. Is able to formulate an appropriate solution to accurately solve tasks and questions. Can identify individual aspects, but lacks an awareness of links between them and the wider contexts. Outputs can be understood, but lack structure and/or coherence.
Equivalent to the range 70%+. Assemble critically evaluated, relevent areas of knowledge and theory to constuct professional-level solutions to tasks and questions presented. Is able to cross-link themes and aspects to draw considered conclusions. Presents outputs in a cohesive, accurate, and efficient manner.
Equivalent to the range 60%-69%. Is able to analyse a task or problem to decide which aspects of theory and knowledge to apply. Solutions are of a workable quality, demonstrating understanding of underlying principles. Major themes can be linked appropriately but may not be able to extend this to individual aspects. Outputs are readily understood, with an appropriate structure but may lack sophistication.
Identify, explore and interpret a real-world problem, and its context, that could be solved by a creative technological intervention.
Reflect upon, critically evaluate and appraise, and defend the decisions made, for the chosen and implemented solution.
Compare and contrast alternative solutions to the identified problem collaborating with a inter-disciplinary team to produce a design.
Deliver and present prototypes illustrating aspects of the final product.
