Overview
The module is designed to provide a thorough coverage of professional skills and competencies required for career development in the field of marketing. The content covers a range of study skills, preparation for teamworking, career awareness, and personal and professional development planning. Students are encouraged to reflect on their personal aims as part of their studies and subsequent career. The module delivers strong foundations for studies at the postgraduate level and will aide graduates to plan and make informed career management decisions.
The module is based around a series of sessions where students are introduced to generic academic and professional skills and apply them in the context of Marketing to include (but not limited to): information search and data sources in educational and employment context, independent and group work preparation, writing and presentation, and planning for career development and enhancing employability.
Assessment Strategy
A- to A** (70% +) Excellent standard: An outstanding performance, exceptionally able. The relevant information accurately deployed. Excellent grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practice elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Strong evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
B- to B+ (60-69%) Most of the relevant information accurately deployed. Good grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
C- to C+ (50-59%) No major omissions or inaccuracies in the deployment of information/skills. Some grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Integration of theory/practice/information present intermittently in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Limited use of creative and reflective skills.
Learning Outcomes
- Analyse the challenges and opportunities of studying and working within a diverse population while developing the competence to work effectively in multicultural groups.
- Apply the skill of identifying and sourcing materials relevant to particular marketing issues and to appraise their provenance and limitations.
- Engage in self-reflection related to employability and implement planning for career development.
- Evaluate academic and practitioner marketing sources to then present arguments and ideas clearly and succinctly in written format.
