Overview
In this module, you will study via lectures and seminars to apply practical issues in Global Business. You will also be guided to complete an independent study on this topic.
Every day, in whatever media we read, we hear of developments around the World – political, economic and social developments which may change the current ‘status quo’. This module assists in interpreting those developments as opportunities for ourselves, our families, and the societies in which we live – but also as potential threats to the ways ‘we do things’.
Analysing the changing global environment with a focus on the implications of these changes for international business. The various factors that shape the global business environment will be examined including economic, political, social, and cultural aspects – together with appropriate market entry strategies, and an appreciation of the competitive dynamics within a global context.

- Global business environment
- Political aspects of international trade
- Insights to foreign direct investment
- Society, culture and business environment
- Political and economic systems
- International legal environment
- Regional integration
- Transnational actors and international organisations

Assessment Strategy
-threshold -D- to D+ (40-49%): No major omissions or inaccuracies in the deployment of information/skills. Some grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Integration of theory/practice/information present intermittently in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives.
-good -B- to B+ (60-69%): Very good performance Most of the relevant information accurately deployed. Good grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-excellent -A- to A+ (70%+): Outstanding performance. The relevant information accurately deployed. Excellent grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practice elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Strong evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-another level-C- to C+ (50-59%): Much of the relevant information and skills mostly accurately deployed. Adequate grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Fair integration of theory/practice/information in the pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Some evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
Learning Outcomes
- Assess broader social and environmental trends globally and evaluate the impact of these on the international business environment.
- Assess the role of states in the global economy and how different policies might affect the business process.
- Critically evaluate the interactions between the business organization and its wider environment.
- Identify the shifts in the global economy and how this is affecting international businesses.
