Overview
This module provides insights to work - either in a placement arranged directly by the student themselves with a company, or through the analysis of work practices in an industry/company that has been assigned to the student. Students will share a common set of preparatory workshops. Regardless of whether the student seeks a formal placement with an independent company or has a company assigned the following skills and knowledge will be relevant for future careers. Topics may include, but will not be limited to:
- Placement searching - searching for an employer, effective use of resources, networking
- Preparing an application for placement - CV and cover letter writing
- Placement preparation – professional conduct, what to expect on placement, making the most of your time on placement

Assessment Strategy
-threshold -D- to D+ (40-49%): No major omissions or inaccuracies in the deployment of information/skills. Some grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Integration of theory/practice/information present intermittently in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. -good -B- to B+ (60-69%): Most of the relevant information accurately deployed. Good grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Good integration oftheory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills. -excellent -A- to A+ (70%+): Outstanding performance. The relevant information accurately deployed. Excellent grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practice elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Strong evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills. -another level-C- to C+ (50-59%): Much of the relevant information and skills mostly accurately deployed. Adequate grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Fairintegration of theory/practice/information in the pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Some evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
Learning Outcomes
- Assess the aims of an organization, its structure and customer relationships and the methods used to achieve organizational objectives.
- Consider and discuss how theoretical concepts apply to practical situations
- Develop a range of skills relevant to preparation for work in an organization.
- Reflect upon how this module will help to plan their future career.
