School of Computer Science & Engineering
Module - Semester 1 & 2
20 credits
Module Organiser:
Aled Williams
Overview
The module focuses on further developing the 3 digital elements initiated in module ICE-2852: CAD, Digital Graphics and FEA and requires students to complete a range of tutorials and tasks to develop their technical ability. Every guided task is supplemented with an extension task which, when completed successfully, validates the learning.
Topics and skills: Intermediate surface modelling, CAD weldments, CAD sheet metal, rendering, visualisation, branding, product illustration, graphical mock ups, reverse engineering. The FEA component consists of two reverse engineering tasks to model and prove the strength of components.
Assessment Strategy
-excellent -A- to A+ (70%+): Outstanding Performance. The relevant information accurately deployed. Excellent grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practice elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Strong evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-good -B- to B+ (60-69%): Very good performance Most of the relevant information accurately deployed. Good grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Good integration of theory/practice/information in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-another level-C- to C+ (50-59%): Much of the relevant information and skills mostly accurately deployed. Adequate grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Fair integration of theory/practice/information in the pursuit of the assessed work's objectives. Some evidence of the use of creative and reflective skills.
-threshold -D- to D+ (40-49%): No major omissions or inaccuracies in the deployment of information/skills. Some grasp of theoretical/conceptual/practical elements. Integration of theory/practice/information present intermittently in pursuit of the assessed work's objectives.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop intermediate CAD surface modelling skills, and create new CAD solutions within a design and engineering context.
- Develop intermediate FEA study simulation skills, and create new solutions to extend FEA simulation skills to solve a real world problem.
- Develop intermediate digital graphic rendering and visualisation, and create new digital graphic solutions for a specific commercial context.
