Assessment Strategy
The written examination and audit assessment are graded using the Percentage Grade Scale as follows:
70% Distinction Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and the outcomes being assessed.
60-69% Merit A very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and the outcomes being assessed.
40-59% Pass
<40% Fail
For the Clinical Audit assessment, students are provided with a detailed marking rubric advising them what they need to include in their work to achieve a grade within each of the grade boundaries above.
The ILS DOP is a Pass/Fail assessment and students are required to demonstrate clinical competency managing and leading on various medical emergencies in a simulated setting.
All elements of each assessment must be passed at the minimum 40% threshold (or achieve a Pass grade) to pass the module. Students who do not achieve a Pass grade or meet the minimum threshold of 40% will be given one reassessment attempt. Regardless of the overall module score, failure to pass any individual assessment component will result in the student being unable to progress in the programme.
A detailed marking rubric will be provided to students.

They will be required to examine an aspect of clinical practice, identify an appropriate/relevant benchmark for best practice, carry out the audit activity making recommendations for future practice and review. Students will be expected to engage with an audit framework and relate their audit activity to the wider evidence base. This assessment is marked using the percentage grade scale with the minimum threshold being 40%. Students will be provided with a marking rubric detailing what is required of them to achieve a grade within each of the grade boundaries.
