Overview
This course is part of a series of modules (including PPT-4005 and PPT-4006) with the ultimate aim to develop and enhance teaching skills, understanding of issues within teaching in Higher Education, and the mechanisms involved in running and developing Human Sciences courses in Higher Education. Students will be expected to work as a member of a teaching team to complete their Teaching Practice.
These courses are predominately focused on the practice of teaching, rather than pedagogical theory. The aim of the course is to help students become a competent and adaptable teaching practitioner, able to facilitate and support student learning. Moreover, they will gain some insight and experience of the ‘hidden’ mechanisms of teaching in Higher Education (e.g., quality assurance, moderation etc). They will find these skills invaluable for their future academic development and employability.

Description
The assessment, which is graded as pass/fail will enable the student to evidence their teaching and/or learning support experiences in higher education and will provide an opportunity for students to reflect upon and critically evaluate their experiences of teaching, CPD, and working with others to produce observations of practice. The assessment in its entirety, labelled as ‘Placement’, will include the following components: 1. A Teaching Placement Evidence Form documenting a record of the assigned classroom and/or marking activities which account for 90 hours of time across 30 teaching weeks, signed off by the Placement module(s) MO(s). 2. Completion of the required reciprocal teaching observations across the 30 teaching weeks, evidenced by sign-off from the student’s teaching adviser. 3. Submission of a 500-word reflective essay which gives the student an opportunity to write an evidence-based reflection on the development of their effective and inclusive practice as a practitioner in higher education.
