Set between the Snowdonia National Park and the Menai Straits, Bangor is the ideal location for those who love the great outdoors. With large forests such as Newborough and Gwydyr within close proximity, I found that it was the perfect location for studying forestry.

The course delivered a thorough grounding in environmental and ecological issues, with a focus on forestry specific topics. The lectures were reinforced with relevant field trips throughout Wales, giving an opportunity to see the theory put into practice. During my course I undertook work placements in Finland and Austria, and had a placement year working with a UK-based private-sector forestry consultancy.

I was able to secure employment with a large private-sector forest management company shortly before graduating. After five years of primarily commercial practice I moved into estate forestry by joining the Duchy of Cornwall, where I am involved in the management of a diverse range of forests and woodlands throughout southern England. The knowledge and experiences I gained from my time at Bangor have been instrumental in opening a range of opportunities for me.
