PhD Title: Adapting DBT skills for adolescents with ASD.
My research will look at adapting the DBT STEPS A (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving in Adolescents) programme for adolescents (12-18 years) with ASD. The programme is the skills training component taken from standard DBT, modified to be delivered in a school setting as part of the standard curriculum. My first study is a feasibility study of standard DBT STEPS A in a UK school. I will then consider what further adaptations are needed to make the intervention better suited to adolescents with ASD who as well as having emotion regulation difficulties, often have additional difficulties in comparison to their peers by virtue of having ASD. I then plan to pilot and evaluate this intervention.
