Welcome to the School of Computer Science and Engineering

Opportunities abound for students wishing to learn about the latest developments in computing and electronic technologies at Bangor University.  We have a great reputation for helpful, caring staff who undertake world-leading research.

Research excellence

Our staff  figure among the world leaders in a broad range of technologies, from Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition to Data Visualisation; Medical Microwave Electronics and Medical Simulation; Optolectronics, Broadband and Optical Communications; Organic Electronics; Nanotechnology; Nuclear Engineering and more. Undergraduate students undertake their individual and team projects in close collaboration with these researchers, whose expertise and knowledge also informs the undergraduate programmes.

A fantastic location to study

We are located in a region of outstanding natural beauty between the mountains, lakes and forests of the Snowdonia National Park and the dramatic North Wales coastline. The Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Môn) is also on our doorstep which makes our location is the perfect environment to study.

Our facilities include superbly-equipped computer and networking laboratories, a state-of-the art electronic laboratory (one of the few in the UK badged by the leading test and measurement instrument makes Keysight Technologies), extensive research laboratories and a Class 1000 electronics cleanroom.

Teaching and learning

Our staff are committed to delivering the highest quality learning experience for our students. Our highly-qualified staff, many of whom are world-leaders in research in their fields, are passionate about passing on their expertise and subject knowledge.

A number of our courses are accredited by professional bodies like the British Computer Society and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, which means that learnt skills and attributes are recognised as being the first step to achieving a Chartered Engineer or Chartered Scientist professional qualification.

We also offer the ability for students to undertake an international experience year which can be reflected in a degree title.

Postgraduate study and Research

Our postgraduate programmes cover a wide range of subjects, with both taught postgraduate programmes (MSc and MRes) and research postgraduate courses (MSc by research, MPhil and PhD) on offer.
