Overall aims and purpose
This module gives students an understanding about the pathophysiology of common chronic diseases, including an appreciation of the role lifestyle plays in the risk of developing these diseases. The module will also provide insight about the role of exercise in preventing and treating these diseases.
The module provides core knowledge to students wishing to pursue careers in health and exercise sciences.
The module will consist of interactive seminars and self-study.
On successful completion of this module, students will be able to: 1) Explain the pathophysiology of common chronic diseases; 2) Assess the role lifestyle plays in preventing and treating common chronic diseases; 3) Appraise the potential benefit and risk of exercise interventions in common chronic diseases; 4) Construct exercise interventions for implementation in common chronic diseases.

Specific and up-to-date research papers will be provided at the end of each lecture presentation.
