    Bydd y modiwl yn ymchwilio i ystod o ddamcaniaethau dysgu, gan gynnwys damcaniaethau deallusrwydd Gardner, Salovey, Mayer ac eraill; a sut mae’r rhain yn berthnasol i arddulliau dysgu personol y myfyrwyr.     XAE-1026: Skills for Learning & Work (20)
    The module will explore a range of learning theories, including the intelligence theories of Gardner, Salovey, Mayer and others; and how these relate to the students’ personal learning styles. It will: • develop the students’ skills in context of reading and note-taking strategies; • summarizing, referencing and the effective use of online library services; • develop theoretical and reflective writing skills including reviewing, critiquing and evaluating texts. • provide opportunities for students to develop confidence in oral communication through presentations in seminars with peers; • investigate the effect of motivation on learning and help students to develop a critical awareness of their own learning and motivation and evaluate their learning experiences, successes and challenges. The module will link into the students’ Personal Development Plan.

    The module begins with a general exploration of the child’s development from birth to the early years. There is an emphasis on: • the importance of the individual’s environment, the chemical environment of the genes in the womb and a focus on the social environment during the early years; • theories regarding the physical and cognitive development of the individual, in particular the impact of the child’s environmental experiences on cognitive development; • social interactions on the psycho-social development of the individual; • the effect that a lack of understanding of the social world or lack of social experiences has on a child’s development; • observing young children’s interactions and investigating the influence of adults and peers on the psycho-social development of young children through case studies and through practical explorations and observations in a relevant settings.   • SCP-1006: Cyflwyniad Astudiaethau Iechyd (10) (Semester 2)
    Bydd y modiwl hwn yn edrych ar y modd y darperir gwasanaethau ‘lles’ i gleientiaid. Bydd yn edrych ar agweddau personol, cymdeithasol, economaidd a gwleidyddol gofal iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol, ac yn ystyried rhai o’r materion moesol ac athronyddol a godir. Mae’r cwrs hefyd yn olrhain datblygiad a defnydd cysyniadau megis angen cymdeithasol, angen o ran gofal iechyd, lles cyfiawnder cymdeithasol a chydraddoldeb, dinasyddiaeth ac eithrio cymdeithasol ymysg eraill o fewn fframwaith proses y polisi. Bydd myfyrwyr yn ystyried cyfres o faterion perthnasol, e.e. gofal yr henoed, amddiffyn plant, thriniaeth i bobl â salwch meddwl, ayyb.     Mae'r fodiwl yn eich cyflwyno at faes trosedd a chyfiawnder troseddol. Trafodir theorïau a themau allweddol a ddefnyddir i egluro ymddygiad droseddol sy'n cynnwys esboniadau clasurol i'r rhai mwyaf cyfoes; y mesurau a ddatblygwyd i atal trosedd, ynghyd â gorolwg o'r system gyfiawnder troseddol sy'n cynnwys prif asiantaethau cyfiawnder troseddol, datblygiad hanesyddol, strwythur ac atebolrwydd y system.

    SXY-1007: Intro to Crmnlgy & Crim'l Just (20) (Semester 1 + 2)
    Part One of this module is intended to provide Level One students with a sound understanding of the ways in which in England and Wales, crime comes to the attention of the authorities, how crime is measured and investigated, how accused persons are brought to trial, and those who are convicted are sentenced and punished. This module takes an historical view of criminal law, the police, the criminal courts and the prision system, examining the significant social, economic, and philosophical changes that have helped to shape the modern criminal justice and penal systems. It examines the functions of the criminal justice agencies, explores some of the predominant ideas and theories about how the system operates and raises critical questions about the ways in which criminal justice is done and punishment is delivered. In Part Two the aim is to provide students with a thorough familiarity of major ways of thinking about crime, with reference to some of the main theoretical perspectives within criminology. This module provides an introduction to a range of criminological thought. Theoretical perspectives have been developed in an attempt to explain why people commit crime, and the history of thought on this question will be examined. The module considers the shifting definitions of crime and to offenders. Empirical concerns are likely to include to role of the media in crime construction, the use and abuse of drugs, the experiences of victims of crime and attitudes towards white-collar and organised crime.

Ystyrir pwysigrwydd gwerthoedd ym maes gwaith a gofal cymdeithasol ac yn arbennig y pwyslais ar ymarfer gwrth wahaniaethol a gwrthormesol. Ceir cyfle i gyfarwyddo gyda'r fframwaith cymdeithasol cyfoes ac i ymdrin ag anghenion cymdeithasol personol grwpiau amrywiol megis plant a'u teuluoedd pobl hyn, pobl ag anableddau, a phobl sy'n profi afiechyd meddwl.     This module traces the development of the Personal Social Services in Wales and England , and analyzes the organisation of the services.Consideration is given to the importance of values in social work and social care and in particular the emphasis given to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppresive practice.The contemporary social framework is explored, and the module also examines the personal social needs of groups such as children and families, older people , people with disabilities, and people who experience mental health problems.The module examines how these needs can be met by implementing policies such as Care in the Community and the Mixed Economy of Care.Consideration is given to developments and provision within some other European Union countries.The future of the Personal Social Services is also considered in view of current government policies.     The module will focus on; • promoting student reflective learning and critical thinking on inclusion of, and provision for, children and young people with ALN; • issues related to inclusive education, access issues, supporting families, legislation and supporting individuals in achieving their rights in education, services and society; • examining a case study related to a particular child or young person and evaluating the impact of support in light of other readings and research; • attending an SEN placement and keep a log book as a basis to critically analyse and reflect on the nature of the provision with regard to the statutory requirements; • identifying people’s responsibilities and the nature of roles in the setting and how the children and young people’s needs are met.

    The module will focus on a range of relevant topics on children’s literacy and literature, such as: • importance and value of arming children with literacy skills in the context of children’s literature; • defining a child’s early literacy and developmental literacy; • theories concerning the manner in which children’s literacy should be developed; • promotion of children’s early literacy by parents, Wales Basic Skills Programmes – Language & Play Programme, Fair Start Programme; Sure Start Scheme; Twf; Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin (Nursery Schools Movement), Children’s Librarian; • practical workshop on how to compose a story, an informative book, or an anthology for children; evaluate how the use of the compositions contributes to children’s literacy, the analysis of a selection of significant literature; • writing/creating a story, a factual book and poetry for children, and analysing the characteristics of these forms; • evaluate how different practitioners promote children’s literacy skills and various methods, strategies and resources which maintain children’s interest in literacy and reading.

Mae theori ffemiistiaeth yn cynnwys ystod eang o safbwyntiau gwleidyddol ac athronyddol, o ffeministiaeth ryddfrydol sy'n canolbwyntio ar greu newid yn amodau byw'r ferch unigol, hyd at y ffeminstiaid radical sydd am weld y sefyllfa gymdeithasol bresennol yn cael ei gwyrdroi'n llwyr. Maes astudiaeth ffeministiaid Marcsaidd-sosialaidd yw cyfalafiaeth a phatriarchaeth, ac ystyrir beirniadaeth y ffeministiaid hyn ar theori gymdeithasegol glasurol.

    Er y byddir yn rhoi peth sylw i rai o haneswyr mawr y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg – fel Ranke, Macaulay a Marx – bydd pwyslais y cwrs ar hanesyddiaeth yr ugeinfed ganrif. Canolbwyntir gan hynny ar feddylwyr a thueddiadau allweddol ym maes hanesyddiaeth yn ystod y ganrif ddiwethaf gan astudio enghreifftiau penodol o gynnyrch y meddylwyr a’r ysgolion dan sylw. Ymysg y pynciau a astudir bydd Ysgol yr Annales, Hanesyddiaeth Farcsaidd, Hanes Merched, Hanes Llafar, a her syniadaeth ôl-strwythurol ac ôl-fodern. Neulltuir yn ogystal ddwy ddarlith i drafod agweddau ar Hanesyddiaeth Cymru yn y cyfnod diweddar.

    HCH-2050: Debating History (20) (Semester 1)
    The first part of the course is concerned with the use of the past made by historians and commentators such as politicians, the way traditions are invented (and destroyed), and introduces the different historiographical schools. The second part covers some historiographical (ie. concerned with the art of writing history) issues with emphasis on the various ideas about the study and writing of history which have developed over the last two centuries and which students need to understand in order to engage confidently with the different approaches which professional historians take to their work. This is taught through a case-study approach where students can apply the different approaches studied in the first part of the course to specific controversial historical subjects. The course will cover the following topics: Whig and Tory history, Ranke, the professionalisation of the study of history, nations, empire, structuralism, post-structuralism, revisionism, counter-factual history, case studies may change from year to year but will include topics such as The Peasants’ Revolt, The English civil war, the outbreak of world war one; suffrage, consumerism, the Welsh in history, the Reformation. American Civil war, Cold War; Oral history; National identity.

    This module will introduce students to the main sociological perspectives on health and medicine, and will explore current debates concerning the nature and role of biomedicine. Lay experiences and health beliefs will be studied, and lay/professional interactions explored. The role of the professions, and changing power relationships within the health services will be put under scrutiny. The medicalization of birth, death and society will be considered. Students will evaluate the changing profile of health and illness in contemporary society, and consider the experience of chronic illness and disability. The social patterning of health according to class, gender and ethnicity will be analyzed, and competing explanations considered. Geographic inequalities in health status will be explored as well as social differences relating to age and the life course.

    Yn y modiwl hwn, parheir i ddatblygu'r sgiliau ymchwil a ddysgwyd ar lefel 2. Rhoddir hyfforddiant benodol ar ddefnyddio cyfrifiaduron in gynhyrchu data meintiol. Ystyrir hefyd sut i gyflwyno ffrwyth ymchwil maes ar ffurf ddarllenadwy a chymen mewn adroddiad ymchwil.
  • SCH-3025: Llywodraethiant: Iechyd a Lles (20)
    Bydd y modiwl hwn yn amlygu damcaniaethau sylfaenol ynghylch rheolaeth a rheoleiddio ym meysydd iechyd a lles. Bydd yn ystyried priod rol llywodraethau o ran rheolaeth dros y sectorau hyn ac yn ystyried perthynas llywodraeth a’r sector breifat y trydydd sector a chymdeithas sifil. Bydd felly yn gosod seiliau ddealltwriaeth cymdeithasegol o fodelau llywodraethiant. Bydd yn olrhain datblygiad amrywiol llywodraethiant ar draws gwledydd a gwladwriaethau gwahanol ac yn cyflwyno darlun manwl o systemau penderfynnu, craffu a monitro polisi iechyd a lles yng Nghymru a Lloegr.

    This module will concentrate on the development of students’ critical understanding of Language & Communication Difficulties, and analyse the effect of such conditions on the social interaction skills and emotional and social development of children and young people by giving attention to the following: • What is Communication and the development circle of a child’s language? • Different kinds of Language & Communication Difficulties. • What does the Special Needs Code of Practice, statutory documentation and research state? • The role of parents and carers of individuals with Language & Communication Difficulties. • The implications of frustration on children and young people, such as behavioural and emotional problems. • A professional support network with voluntary agencies. • Intervention programmes and support strategies in response t the needs of young individuals with Language & Communication Difficulties.

    The module will focus on typical development in the early years of life, and how research on and understandings of the factors which influence development, inform the education and care of children and young people with SLD and PMLD. Content will include: • Early Learning and Memory; • Motor development; • Development of communication and socialisation; • Interactions between infants with and without disabilities and their caregivers - implications for the development; • Development of vision and perception; • Medical issues relating to SLD and PMLD; • Issues in researching very early learning and development and SLD and PMLD; • .Assessment of and development of children and young people with multiple impairment: insights from research; • Common interventions in communication and interaction and the current evidence base for these including issues in evaluating the evidence for interventions; • Education and care provision for children and young people with SLD and PMLD - implications of psychological research and other theoretical approaches.

    Ceir ymdriniaeth drylwyr o faes hawliau ieithyddol yn ystod y modiwl hon. Mae'n cynnwys ymdrin â'r ddadl ynghylch hawliau ieithyddol a gosod yr hawliau hyn o fewn fframwaith polisi hanesyddol y maes ac yn ogystal o fewn cyd-destun ehangach hawliau lleiafrifol. Mae'r modiwl yn pwyso a mesur hawliau'r unigolyn a hawliau grwp a'r damcaniaethau allweddol sydd ynghlwm wrthynt. Bydd y modiwl hefyd yn cynnwys trafodaeth ynglyn â sicrhau hawliau ieithyddol mewn perthynas â'r iaith Gymraeg yng Nghymru, ac yn ogystal, yn tynnu ar ddatblygiadau ar lefel Ewropeaidd yn y maes.
