Evaluating Practice (Child)(B)

Module Facts

Overall aims and purpose

You will independently pursue a relevant topic of interest pertaining to patient/client care within their field of practice. This will encompass a critical evaluation of the provision of effective care and its management, the factors which influence the quality and standards of care and the ways in which service improvement can be attained.

Course content

• Critiquing and reviewing evidence in your field of practice. • Writing skills for extended essays • National safety and quality policies/legislation in your field of practice. • Legislation relevant to field of study • Risk assessment and management in your field of practice. • Audit, PDSA, patient stories in your field of practice. • National Service Frameworks relevant to your field of practice. • NICE Guidelines relevant to your field of practice. • Multi-disciplinary team working in your field of practice.

Assessment Criteria

You will independently pursue a relevant topic of interest pertaining to patient/client care within their field of practice. Good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module, with an ability to apply what is learnt in healthcare practice. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade C- in the Grading Criteria.

Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module, with an ability to apply what is learnt in healthcare practice. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria.

Learning outcomes

  1. Analyse the importance of respect for individuals and how the dignity of the patient/ client is maintained throughout the process of healthcare delivery.
  2. Critically analyse relevant literature, research, policy documents, legislation and other relevant information such as patient/client stories and demonstrate their application to the management of care in your field of practice
  3. Critically analyse current National patient safety and quality policy agendas and demonstrate their relevance and application to the management and implementation of care in your field of practice.
  4. Demonstrate the application of quality improvement strategies to your field of practice.
  5. Critically analyse the evidence base utilised during decision making and when delivering care in your field of practice
  6. Demonstrate the ability to take a reflective and reflexive approach to patient/client care in your field of practice.
