Overview
Social factors in health will be addressed through an evaluation of social theories and structures, including gender, ethnicity and social class, and applied to a range of health and social care topics. These will include the social causes and consequences of health and illness will be addressed with particular reference to the role that social factors play in determining the health of individuals and the social effects of health policies as they affect larger population groups. This module will also address the relationship between health care delivery and the social behaviour and functions of various healthcare providers and those who use their services. All of this will be contextualised within the policy structure of health and social care provision both in Wales and across the UK. A key focus throughout the module is for students to consider their own health and wellbeing and what affects their actions and choices within the environments and communities in which they have grown and now live.

Assessment Strategy
-threshold -D- to D+ Grade: Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Basic understanding of issues relating to interpreting health. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- grade in the assignment to in order to pass the theory component of the module.
-good -B- to B+ Grade: Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. A very good understanding of issues relating to interpreting health. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B-in the Grading Criteria.
-excellent -A- to A+ Grade: Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Very good understanding of issues relating to interpreting health. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria

Learning Outcomes
- Analyse the current policy drivers in relation to health and social care provisions for those with chronic conditions from a local or global perspective.
- Debate the relationship between health care delivery and the social behaviour and functions of healthcare providers and service users.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key social theories, including the impact of social inequalities on health, and how identified economic and social factors can influence the outcome of interventions deliver

Description
The Poster Presentation will choose one of four case study profiles. Which will be provided along with a short paragraph on their situation relating to health and social care. The poster will be made through using software such as PowerPoint or publisher or can be hand produced, photographed and uploaded digitally in a picture format through turn it in. The poster (and a follow up essay for the final assignment) must show learning against the expected Module Outcomes: 1. Debate the relationship between health care delivery and the social behaviour and functions of healthcare providers and service users 2. Outline the main approaches to preventing disease and promoting wellbeing at an individual and community level 3. Analyse the current policy drivers in relation to health and social care provisions for those with chronic conditions from a local or global perspective. 4. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key social theories, including the impact of social inequalities on health, and how identified economic and social factors can influence the outcome of interventions delivery. The poster can concentrate on any, or a mix, of the learning outcomes, so could be a critical reflection on the social health challenges faced by that client and the organisational response from health and social care. It could also be a proposal on how their health andwellbeing may be best promoted. In both cases we are looking for your use and application ofthe theory and evidence base learnt within the module to the case study

The essay will critically reflect upon how a more ‘asset based approach to care’ might be achieved with the car study client, how this would differ from usual practice, what obstacles to its implementation might be encountered, and what different outcomes might be expected.
