Module NHS-3251:
Return to Practice (S)

Return to Practice 2023-24
NHS-3251
2023-24
School Of Medical And Health Sciences
Module - Semester 2
30 credits
Module Organiser: Carol Westwell
Overview

1.Enable practitioners to renew registration and re-enter practice with up to date theoretical knowledge that will underpin the delivery of modern, safe and effective care. 2.Enable practitioners to renew registration and re-enter practice with up to date evidence-based clinical skills and competencies. 3.Facilitate the assimilation of theoretical knowledge to permeate day-to-day practice through updated experience and reflective analysis. As from April 2016, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Revalidation process requires registered practitioners to have practiced, by virtue of their nursing registration for not less than 450 hours in the preceding 3 years to maintain effective registration. The undertaking of a Return to Practice Course approved by the NMC is mandatory for practitioners who do not meet this standard and wish to renew their registration. This module aims to enable the student to re-gain’ live’ registration with the ability to function safely and effectively as an accountable professional through updating of knowledge and skills. The purpose of this module is to consolidate and develop previously attained professional knowledge and skills to ensure that students have the necessary knowledge and skills to facilitate the transition back onto the professional registered. Students will develop the knowledge and skills required to participate in the educative processes expected of all professional practitioners. The Department of Health is continuing to improve clinical effectiveness and the quality of patient/client care; consequently there is a need for students to acquire the knowledge and skills pertaining to risk management, governance, quality assurance, leadership and management and management of change. Students will have a revision/recap/enhanced knowledge and skills for decision making to support the processes of delegation and develop an in-depth understanding of the skills required for successful inter-professional working, leadership and management. These will be enahnced and utilised to meet the contemporary expectations of relevant regulatory bodies and patients/clients.
