Overview
The module will include:
• Clinical examination and assessment of a range of musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory conditions
• Practical assessment, diagnosis and treatment techniques applicable to a wide range of of musculoskeletal, neurological and cardiorespiratory conditions
• Communication skills
• History taking and consultation skills (SOAP)
• Shared decision making and goal setting
• Compliance and adherance
• Physiology of tissue repair
• Clinical reasoning
• Investigative measures including diagnostic ultrasound, radiology and MRI / CT scanning
• Principles of strapping and taping
• Introduction to massage and manual therapies - theory and practice
• Theory of electro-physical agents (electrotherapy)
• Patient safety
• Clinical risk management
• Risk management and communication
• Review of therapeutic interventions
Assessment Strategy
-good -60% Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Good understanding of physiotherapy practice. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria. -excellent -70%> Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Very good understanding of physiotherapy practice. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria -another level-50% Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Basic understanding of physiotherapy practice. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of C- grade in the assignment to in order to pass the theory component of the module.
Learning Outcomes
- Critically appraise communication skills within the context of the consultation in the practice setting.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of diagnostic measures and their application in practice
- Demonstrate an understanding of the various modalities used in the treatment and management of injuries and conditions
