Overall aims and purpose

Mae’r modiwl cyfrwng Cymraeg hwn yn edrych ar amrywiaeth ieithyddol yn y Gymraeg o safbwynt sosioieithyddol (sociolinguistic).

Byddwn yn trafod nodweddion damcaniaethol sylfaenol maes sosioieithyddiaeth, gan ystyried yn enwedig sut mae ffactorau cymdeithasol - fel oedran, rhywedd (gender), grwp cymdeithasol ac ati - yn dylanwadu ar y ffurfiau ieithyddol mae siaradwyr yn eu defnyddio, yn y Gymraeg ac mewn ieithoedd eraill.

Gan adeiladu ar y wybodaeth ieithyddol sydd eisoes gan fyfyrwyr, byddwn yn trafod pynciau fel: sut mae tafodieithoedd y Gymraeg yn wahanol neu'n debyg i’w gilydd, pa nodweddion cymdeithasol sy'n peri i'r Gymraeg arddangos amrywiaeth gramadegol, a sut mae gramadeg y Gymraeg wedi newid dros y canrifoedd.

Yn ogystal, bydd myfyrwyr yn ennyn dealltwriaeth o ddulliau a theori casglu data sosioieithyddol a sut i ddadansoddi amrywiaeth iaith.

Bydd y modiwl hwn yn adeiladu ar ac yn datblygu’r sgiliau a’r wybodaeth a enillwyd yn QCB-1113 Iaith a Chymdeithas, QCL-1018 Disgrifio Iaith a/neu QCL-2245 Ieithyddiaeth Gymraeg, ond nid oes angen i fyfyrwyr fod wedi cymryd y modiwlau hyn er mwyn gallu dilyn a deall Amrywiaeth yn y Gymraeg.

Bydd myfyrwyr yn dysgu am bynciau fel:

  • Diffinio sosioieithyddiaeth Labovaidd
  • Oedran fel newidyn ieithyddol
  • Rhywedd fel newidyn ieithyddol
  • Amrywiaeth cystrawennol yn y Gymraeg
  • Tafodieitheg y Gymraeg (canolraddol)
  • Sut i gasglu data sosioieithyddol
  • Sut i ddadansoddi data sosioieithyddol
  • Amrywiaeth mewn cyfnewid cod
  • Amrywiaeth hanesyddol yn y Gymraeg a darllen Cymraeg Canol
  • Amrywiaeth mewn agweddau hanesyddol pobl ar y Gymraeg

Gafael ardderchog ar brif nodweddion sosioieithyddol y Gymraeg. Gallu uchel mewn adnabod yr agweddau rhain mewn testunau llafar/ysgrifenedig. Yn gallu deall a thrafod agweddau damcaniaethol o theori sosioieithyddiaeth Labovaidd i safon ganolraddol uchel. Gallu uchel mewn dadansoddi amrywiaeth yn nodweddion y Gymraeg ar draws newidynnau ieithyddol ac allieithyddol. Gallu uchel mewn cymharu gwahanol nodweddion o ramadeg y Gymraeg dros amser. Yn arddangos meistrolaeth mewn dadansoddi agweddau geiriol a gramadegol o dafodieithoedd y Gymraeg. Yn dangos gallu ganolraddol uchel o ddatblygiad haneysddol y Gymraeg. Yn deall ac yn gallu defnyddio technegau casglu data sosioieithyddol i safon sylfaenol uchel.   2. Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu disgrifio, trafod a cymharu nifer o wahanol ffurfiau ieithyddol ar yr iaith Gymraeg, yn gyfoes ac yn hanesyddol, gydag ystyriaeth o wahanol rannau o ramadeg yr iaith

  3. Bydd myfyrwyr yn arddangos gwybodaeth o ddulliau casglu a dadansoddi data amrywiaeth iaith.

  4. Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu adolygu, synthesu, mantoli a chymharu’n feirniadol (gyda chymorth lle bo angen) llenyddiaeth empeiraidd berthnasol ym maes sosioieithyddiaeth, yn enwedig yn y traddodiad Labovaidd.

Subject specific skills

  • Understanding of the nature of bi/multilingualism - students will demonstrate familiarity with phenomena and findings relating to the nature of bilingual and multilingual individuals and communities.
  • Writing & scholarly conventions - students will be able to present data, argumentation, findings and references in written form in keeping with the conventions current in language science and English language studies.
  • Analysis & interpretation skills - students will be able to analyse, interpret data accurately, and draw appropriate conclusions based on the application of appropriate analytic and theoretical frameworks available in linguistics and English language studies.
  • Research skills - students will be able undertake independent research, involving formulating a research question, identifying and deploying appropriate linguistic methodology (theoretical or empirical) and data collection techniques (theoretical, experimental or field-based), and the selection and application of appropriate theoretical frameworks in order to adequately address the research question.
  • Evaluation & reflection - students will be able to critically evaluate a particular position, viewpoint or argument in relation to a specific area of investigation. They will be able to reflect on the efficacy of a particular approach, practice or performance, and moderate these as a consequence in order to achieve specific goals.
