Overall aims and purpose
The module aims to introduce students to the theory and practice of teaching music.
Topics include:
- Music Education – an historical and international perspective
- A concise survey of the main theories of Music pedagogy
- Current developments and trends in Music Education (in the UK)
- An introduction to the Music curriculum in Wales (including a school visit)
- Creative and practical work in the music classroom
- Listening and appraising in the music classroom
- Music technology in the classroom
- Current themes and priorities in schools (in Wales)

Assessment Criteria

Good knowledge and understanding of their discipline but lacks consistency with certain gaps evident. Some evidence of the ability to devise and sustain arguments and solve problems; ability to describe and comment upon particular aspects of current research, or equivalent advanced scholarship, and accurate deployment of established techniques of analysis and enquiry within their discipline. Limited demonstration of their ability to manage their own learning by setting clear targets, and to make use of scholarly reviews and primary sources, appropriate to the discipline.
