Overall aims and purpose

Course content

Mae hwn yn un o fodiwlau gorfodol Cymraeg, Theatr a’r Cyfrynau, ond bydd ei gynnwys hefyd yn berthnasol i amryw raglenni gradd eraill a gynigir gan Ysgol y Gymraeg gan ei fod yn cwmpasu gwaith rhai o lenorion amlycaf yr iaith. Ei bwrpas yw rhoi cyflwyniad cryno i hanes y theatr Gymraeg hyd at y 1920au cyn mynd ati i ganolbwyntio ar ei hoes aur yn ystod gweddill yr ugeinfed ganrif a’r unfed ganrif ar hugain. Bydd prif bwyslais y modiwl ar waith detholiad o ddramodwyr sy wedi pennu a llywio cwrs y ddrama Gymraeg fodern. Trwy gyfrwng astudiaeth benodol o theatr Saunders Lewis, John Gwilym Jones, Gwenlyn Parry ac Aled Jones Williams rhoir sylw i faterion fel y ddrama hanesyddol a chwedlonol, y ddrama fydryddol, a Theatr yr Abswrd yn ogystal â chysyniadau dylanwadol fel Naturiolaeth ar Ôl-foderniaeth. Ar hyd y modiwl, cyfeirir yn gyson at y cyd-destun cymharol a’r modd y dylanwadwyd ar y theatr Gymraeg fodern gan ddramodwyr eraill o Gymru a thu hwnt.
