Module CXC-3029:
Hud, lledrith, myth a phropaganda: chwedlau'r oesoedd canol

Hud, lledrith, myth a phropaganda: chwedlau'r oesoedd canol 2022-23
CXC-3029
2022-23
School Of Arts, Culture And Language
Module - Semester 2
20 credits
Module Organiser: Aled Llion Jones
Overview

Mae'r modiwl hwn yn cyflwyno'r chwedlau 'brodorol' Cymraeg, sef rhai o gampweithiau llenyddiaeth yr Oesau Canol yn Ewrop gyfan. Bydd rhai o'r straeon eisoes yn gyfarwydd ichi - megis Pedair Cainc y Mabinogi a "Culhwch ac Olwen" - a chewch archwilio'n fanylach i'w hynodion llenyddol a syniadol.

Byddwn yn edrych ar y berthynas rhwng themâu'r chwedlau a chymdeithas yr Oesau Canol: sut maen nhw'n perthyn i'w cyfnod; a oes yma feirniadaeth o werthoedd y Gymru ganoloesol; beth yw eu gwerth fel propaganda wleidyddol). Wrth ofyn cwestiynau ynghylch diben a phwrpas y straeon, byddwn yn ystyried y berthynas rhwng 'myth' a 'chwedl' , a taflwn gipolwg ar y berthynas rhwng y deunydd hyn ac eiddo traddodiadau 'Celtaidd' eraill megis llenyddiaeth Iwerddon.

Wrth ofyn paham mae'r chwedlau hyn wedi aros yn berthnasol ac yn boblogaidd dros y canrifoedd, cawn gyfle i astudio gwreiddiau'r traddodiadau Ewropeaidd am y Brenin Arthur.
