Overall aims and purpose
Ever wondered how strength & conditioning specialists help to improve the physical performance of elite athletes? How do we assess the training needs of athletes from a variety of sports? How do we prepare athletes for training, and effectively design and deliver conditioning sessions to maximise the athletes performance? This module will provide you with the fundamental theoretical concepts and practical techniques to help answer these questions. If you are seeking a career working with high-performance and professional athletes this module will start your journey within the multi-disciplinary and exciting field of strength and conditioning.
The module is delivered by accredited staff who have worked as practitioners in the field of strength and conditioning within professional and performance sport pathways, and are active consultants and reasearchers in the field. During the course, you will learn about the fundamental theories of training science, how factors such as individual athlete profiles, the physiological demands and injury profile of the sport can affect the strength and conditioning process. Alongside theoretical concepts of training you will practice the fundamental practical techniques underpinning the delivery of training, such as speed, strength and endurance training.

D- Students will be able to demonstrate an adequate knowledge and understanding of the theoretical principles of strength and conditioning and the needs analysis process. They will also demonstrate an adequate knowledge of training prescription and how to apply this knowledge to the design of strength and conditioning training sessions.
B- Students will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of the theoretical principles of strength and conditioning and the needs analysis process. They will also demonstrate a good knowledge of training prescription and how to apply this knowledge to the design of clear strength and conditioning training sessions.
A- Students will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theoretical principles of strength and conditioning and the needs analysis process. They will also demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of training prescription and how to apply this knowledge to the design of clear and professionally appropriate strength and conditioning training sessions.

|CASE STUDY||Session Plan||
Case study style assessment where students will design and justify a strength and conditioning session plan for a sport of their choice, focusing on the development of strength, speed or endurance quality.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Students will use this private study to complete homework tasks based on applying principles of sport science in practice, additional reading and study towards the online test.
This module will include a combination of pre-released content, live online seminars and on-campus practical sessions.
