Overview

The module will address the ways in which health-related behavioural changes can have a positive effect on an individual’s well-being through adopting a healthy lifestyle in conjunction with health promotion strategies such as diet and exercise. The module will provide an introduction to psychological theories and perspectives on health beliefs, behaviours and behaviour change. The will also explore global, UK and healthcare policies adopted by the Welsh Government, and will link to National Policy and Planning Mechanisms focusing on Community based prevention and early intervention, physical activity and health.

Assessment Strategy

There are two summative assessments for this module each contributing 50% of the final module grade. Students need to achieve an overall average of at least 40% in the module to pass. Workbook (<1000 words) focused on the effects of a selected health behavior on the body, applying published evidence to explain behaviour choices and discussing a chosen health promotion campaign. Online multiple choice exam based on the weekly lecture and reading list articles.

A= Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and detailed understanding of the learning outcomes. Includes new approaches to analysing and/or explaining

Demonstrates extensive background study in relation to the module learning outcomes. Contains logically presented and defended arguments whilst including significant elements of original interpretation and analysis.

Demonstrates an ability to identify, develop and present new links between topics. Includes new approaches to analysing/or explaining a problem.

Be well structured and highly focused. Be presented to very high standards with very accurate communication.

Have effective and accurate referencing throughout.

B= Demonstrate string knowledge and understanding of the learning outcomes. Use existing methods/approaches for analysing and/or explaining Demonstrate evidence of background study in relation to the module learning outcomes. Contain coherently presented arguments whilst including some elements of original interpretation and analysis.

Describe well known links between topics. Analyse and/or explain problems using existing methods/approaches.

Be well structured and focussed. Be presented to high standards with very accurate information.

Have effective and mostly accurate referencing throughout.

C= Demonstrate knowledge of the learning outcomes. Attempt to analyse and/or explain the experience Demonstrate some if only limited background study in relation to the module learning outcomes. Attempt to present relevant and logical arguments whilst attempting analysis.

Describe major links between topics. Attempt to analyse and/ or explain problems.

Be focussed on the question (assessment brief) with only some irrelevant material and weaknesses in structure. Be free of major weaknesses in presentation and accuracy.

Have fairly effective referencing but with some referencing errors.

D= Presented information on the main areas only. The work lack evidence of understanding of the learning outcomes

Limited evidence of background study. The answers do not focus on the questions set with a poor structure and some irrelevant content.

Some arguments have been presented but they lack a coherent structure. No original interpretation or interpretation. Limited problem solving. Numerous inaccuracies and computational errors.

Only the main links between topics are described. Numerous weaknesses in the accuracy and final presentation Efforts to cite references in the text and at the end but this needs to be more accurate and consistent E/F/ Resubmit=Demonstrate insufficient knowledge of the learning outcomes.
