Overview
Module content will typically include:
- Diseases and defences of the oral cavity including oral cancer
- Diseases of the salivary glands
- Oral manifestations of systemic diseases
- Tumours and cysts
- Minor Oral Surgery
Assessment Strategy
Graded percentage range:
70% Distinction 60-69% Merit 40-59% Pass <40% Fail
Students must pass all components of the assessment at the minimum threshold of 40% to pass the module.
Learning Outcomes
- Critically appraise the role of the dental hygienist in the prevention, recognition treatment and management of oral diseases within Scope of Practice
- Demonstrate knowledge of the aetiology, pathology, progression and treatment of oral diseases including oral cancer
- Demonstrate knowledge of the oral manifestations of systemic disease
- Identify normal and abnormal facial growth, physical, mental and dental development and explain their significance
