Learning Outcomes
- Be fully aware of, and able to participate in the delivery of treatment options, and demonstrate the ability to deal with patients who reject therapy with dialysis.
- Critically discuss the physical, social and psychological needs of patients with renal disease, and demonstrate how these are being identified and addressed in the student's own practice
- Critically examine and evaluate the role of the multidisciplinary team within the renal setting, and show that they are able to work as an effective member of such a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate a critical knowledge and understanding of the quality of life issues associated with renal disease, and show that such issues are addressed appropriately in day-to-day practice.
- Demonstrate a critical knowledge and understanding of the treatment options and the potential side effects or complications commonly associated with these treatments, and be able to act accordingly.
- To be able to critically discuss the causes of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, be aware of, and, when appropriate, effectively practice therapies, which retard the progression of renal disease.

Case Study Assignment The student will be expected to submit a 4000-word case study that can be related to an aspect of renal care linked to your selected patient. In this assignment you will be expected to demonstrate critical analysis of current literature/guidelines in your discussion while linking this to your current practice. On completing your review, you will be required to make recommendations as to how practice could be enhanced or improved to benefit the patient

Description
Clinical competencies The competencies are classified as essential (E) or desirable (D). It is mandatory that the competencies that are classified as essential (E) be to be achieved to be deemed a competent practitioner. The competencies that are desirable (D) are not mandatory for the completion of the course; nevertheless it is recommended that the student will work towards the achievement of these competencies, as they will enable the student to enhance the care they offer. In order to complete the clinical competencies the student's will need to spend time with the various members of the multi disciplinary team.
