Overview

Gall testunau amrywio, yn dibynnu ar ddewisiadau myfyrwyr a rhaglen y radd. Maent yn ymwneud ag ystod eang o faterion mewn ieithyddiaeth, ond rhaid iddynt fod yn berthnasol i raglen y radd y mae'r myfyriwr wedi cofrestru arni. Bydd testunau'n cynnwys, ymhlith eraill, ymchwil mewn Iaith Saesneg/Cymraeg, Dwyieithrwydd, Caffael Iaith, Datblygiad Iaith, a dysgu Saesneg fel iaith dramor (TEFL). Bydd y rhan fwyaf o bynciau yn cynnwys casglu a dadansoddi data, ond ni fydd y posibilrwydd o ddefnyddio data presennol neu wneud adolygiad estynedig o lenyddiaeth yn cael ei eithrio os yw'n berthnasol i'r pwnc, ac y cytunir ar hynny â'r goruchwyliwr. Mae’r Ysgol yn gwneud pob ymdrech i oruchwylio unrhyw bwnc y mae myfyrwyr yn ei ddewis, ond yn yr achos prin nad ydy’r Ysgol â’r gallu i oruchwylio pwnc, yna gofynir i fyfyrwyr ddewis pwnc arall.

Er hynny, bydd pynciau'n cynnwys:
• Sut i ffurfio cwestiwn ymchwil.
• Cynhyrchu cais ymchwil.
• Methodoleg ymchwil.
• Ystadegau.

Dim ond myfyrwyr sydd eisiau casglu data yn ymwneud â phlant neu oedolion sy’n agored i niwed sydd angen prawf DBS (gwelwch isod).

Topics vary depending on individual students choices and degree programme. They relate to a wide array of issues in linguistics but must be relevant to the degree programme that the student is registered on. Topics will include, but not be confined to, research in English/Welsh Language Studies, Bilingualism, Language Acquisition, Language Development, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Most topics will involve the collection and analysis of data, but the possibility of utilising exiting data or doing an extended literature review is not precluded if relevant to the topic and agreed with the supervisor. The School makes every effort to supervise the topic of the students' choice, however, on the rare occasions that the School does not have the capacity to supervise a topic, students will be advised to choose a new topic.

However, classes will include:
• How to formulate a research question.
• Producing a research proposal.
• Research methodologies.
• Statistics.

Only students wishing to collect data involving children or vulnerable adults will need a DBS check (see below).

Assessment Strategy

-threshold -D: Mae’r myfyriwr wedi cyrraedd y safon isaf sydd yn dderbyniol o ddealltwriaeth a/neu gwybodaeth ym mhob un o’r Deilliannau Dysgu.Student has achieved the minimum acceptable standard of understanding and/or knowledge in all the Learning Outcomes.

-good -B: Mae’r myfyriwr wedi cyrraedd safon well na’r rhelyw o ddealltwriaeth a/neu gwybodaeth ym mhob un o’r Deilliannau Dysgu.Student has achieved a better-than-average standard of understanding and/or knowledge in all Learning Outcomes.

-excellent -A: Mae’r myfyriwr wedi cyrraedd safon drwyadl o ddealltwriaeth a/neu gwybodaeth ym mhob un o’r Deilliannau Dysgu, neu mae’r myfyriwr wedi arddangos lefel eithriadol o gyrhaeddiad mewn un neu fwy o’r Deilliannau Dysgu. Student has achieved a thorough standard of understanding and/or knowledge in all Learning Outcomes; or student has demonstrated an exceptional level of achievement in one or more Learning Outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu adnabod a gwneud defnydd o gronfa perthnasol o dystiolaeth. Students will be able to identify and utilise a relevant body of evidence.

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu arddangos darllen beirniadol sydd yn adlewyrchu ar nifer o ddarnau o ymchwil ysgrifenedig mewn modd addas a thrwyadl. Students will be able to evidence critical reading that reflects on a number of pieces of written research in an appropriate and thorough manner.

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu arddangos dealltwriaeth o gyfyngiadau moesegol ar gasglu ac adrodd ymchwil. Students will be able to evidence an understanding of ethical constraints on research collection and reports.

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu arddangos ystyriaeth o amryw o ddulliau methodolegol ac i ddefnyddio’r dulliau angenrheidiol sydd yn gweddu i’r pwnc dan sylw. Students will be able to evidence a consideration of varying methodological approaches and to adopt the necessary approaches suitable to the topic being researched

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu cynhyrchu dadl barhaus ar ffurf ysgrifenedig estynedig. Students will be able to produce a sustained argument in extended written form.

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu gwneud darn o ymchwil academaidd unigol parhaus ar bwnc dewisol. Students will be able to engage in a sustained piece of individual, academic research on a chosen topic.

  • Bydd myfyrwyr yn gallu llunio cais ymchwil a fydd yn arwain at eu prosiect ymchwil ymarferol sylweddol eu hunain. Students will be able to formulate a research proposal that will lead to a practical research project of significant scope of their own
