Assessment Strategy
-threshold -Threshold (D- to D+):Submitted work is adequate and shows an acceptable level of competence as follows:1. Generally accurate but with omissions and errors.2. Assertions are made without clear supporting evidence or reasoning.3. Has structure but is lacking in clarity and therefore relies on the reader to make links and assumptions.4. Draws on a relatively narrow range of material.
-good -Good to Very Good (B- to B+):Submitted work is competent and very good throughout and may be distinguished by superior style, approach and choice of supporting materials.1. Demonstrates good or very good structure and logically developed arguments.2. Draws at least in parts on material that has been sourced and assessed as a result of independent study, or in a way unique to the student.3. Assertions are backed by evidence and sound reasoning.4. Accuracy and presentation in an appropriate academic and professional style.
-excellent -Excellent (A- to A+):Submitted work is of an outstanding quality and excellent in one or more of the following ways:1. Has originality of exposition with the student’s own thinking being readily apparent.2. Provides clear evidence of extensive and relevant independent study.3. Arguments are laid down with clarity and provide the reader with successive stages of consideration to reach conclusions.
-another level-Submitted work is competent with a demonstration of knowledge and understanding of the subject area present. 1. Demonstrates good structure and some logically developed arguments.2. Draws mostly on material that has been sourced and assessed from the module with some limited independent study.3. Assertions are backed by evidence and good reasoning.4. Accuracy and presentation in an appropriate academic and professional style present.

Description
Performance Review Assignment 1: Performance Review Question: What insights can be derived from applying the Pavis method of analysis to a live theatre production? Choose no more than two aspects (eg acting, mise en scene, lighting, costume etc) of the Pavis model of analysis. Apply these to a live performance that you have seen. From this analysis you should derive an interpretation of the play that you argue for in your short essay, referring to your analysis. In your essay you must briefly explain the Pavis method and why you have chosen to focus on particular aspects you have chosen (lighting, acting etc). You should make reference to at least 5 sources (this must include some scholarly texts and can also include films, internet sources, reviews, programme notes, plays, etc) and cite these correctly using academic protocol.

Description
Short Group Production The groups will devise a short (15mins – 20mins) performance based on a selected theatre and performance tradition from the course. You will devise a group performance drawing on text and ideas from one or more of the plays studied in the module. You will be expected to apply research from your informal presentations, reading and research undertaken individually and as a group, and ideas and methods used in the taught sessions. You must decide on how you are going to approach or treat the text in order that the themes you have identified are vivified for an audience. You can choose to use elements of the original text, or you may write new text that is derived from the specific themes that you have identified. You will work in groups for this assignment, so most of the marks will be group marks, however individual achievement is also taken into consideration. Assessment will take place during class time hours in the final week of term, 19th April-3rd May 2024

Description
Critical Analysis of making performance Write an essay that reflects critically on the devising process in creating the performance for assignment two .Discuss this statement: ‘devising is a process of creating performance from scratch’ (Heddon and Milling 2006:3) in relation to the work you produced. What ideas have you drawn on, and how? What new insight do you have about devised performance work? You must situate your process in relation to examples and texts covered in the course, and reference these correctly. Ideally you will demonstrate wider research beyond the texts and materials covered in the module. You are expected to make reference to at least 10 sources which can include academic texts, journal articles, reviews, performances, films, internet sources, etc.
