Module XUE-3045:
Design and Manufacture 4

Design and Manufacture 4 2024-25
XUE-3045
2024-25
School Of Computer Science And Electronic Engineering
Module - Semester 1 & 2
30 credits
Module Organiser: Aled Williams
Overview

The module is split into four distinct phases, known as 'Crits'. Each phase requires a presentation be submitted/presented to the company - each phase corresponds a four-step design process. These presentations are assessed by college staff.

  • Crit 1 - presentation of market and user research, along with a definition of design intent and direction.
  • Crit 2 - presentation of concept ideas along with initial 'proof of concept' testing results.

(Presentations have a max time of 4 minutes each)

During this module, students will implement a human centred design process identical to that used by commercial and professional designers - taking a user problem through the identification and research phase, through ideation into final concept, and then into the manufacture of a user testable working prototype (module 3046).

The module also focuses on creating a marketing video for the product, along with creating a poster to communicate the innovation and use of the product - the poster, product and video will be on display during the degree show at the end of the year
