Amcanion cyffredinol
1. To enable trainees to become effective practitioners and develop their own philosophy of teaching.
2. To enable trainees to meet the current statutory requirements in Wales for the award of QTS by developing
(i) their understanding of the primary school curriculum and the role of class teacher within it;
(ii) their ability to plan and deliver lessons, taking into account the age, ability, and varying needs of their pupils;
(iii) their practical teaching skills;
(iv) their classroom management skills;
(v) their skills in monitoring and assessing pupils' achievement.
3. To help trainees understand that an effective teacher is a reflective teacher who can integrate theory with practice.
4. To develop trainees' skills in target-setting and action-planning.
5. To develop trainees' understanding of the teacher's wider role within the primary school context, including pastoral duties and the spiritual and moral welfare of pupils.
Cynnwys cwrs
The module provides an introduction to the theory and practice of teaching in the primary school and encompasses the primary curriculum, Professional Studies, and practical teaching. The college-based provision includes components on either the Foundation Phase Areas of Learning (for those following the 3-7 course) or Core and Non-core Subject Studies (for those following the 7-11 course), and on Professional Studies. School-based provision includes practical teaching in all the aspects of the Early Years or Key Stage 2 curriculum, engagement with relevant professional matters, sessions with mentors, and seminars on appropriate professional issues.

- 1. have a good knowledge and understanding of the Foundation Phase Framework or the KS2 National Curriculum that will enable them to teach in the Early Years or in KS2;
- 2. can plan for, teach, and manage their classes effectively, ensuring sound learning and discipline;
- 3. are able to monitor and assess pupils' work appropriately and use the assessments to improve specific aspects of teaching, and set clear targets for pupils' achievements;
- 4. have a basic working knowledge and understanding of other professional requirements such as teachers' professional duties, teachers' legal liabilities and responsibilities, establishing good working relationships with professional colleagues, and setting a good example to the pupils they teach;
- 5. appreciate the importance of developing into a reflective practitioner and be able to identify their own professional strengths and needs;
- 6. have a basic knowledge of some of the issues pertaining to the education of children, including cross-curricular dimensions such as PSE , the Curriculum Cymreig, global citizenship, and sustainable development.
