Overview
1.Image interpretation, evaluation, and pattern recognition. 2.Normal variants and common pathologies 3.Comparisons of all imaging methods, related to disease processes and patient type. 4.Principles and practice of cross sectional imaging 5.Use of CT in the diagnostic imaging department 6.Legal and ethical considerations to include preliminary clinical comment and informed consent
Assessment Strategy
-threshold -- Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. - Basic ability in applying what is learned to common practice scenarios. - Basic understanding of professional accountability issues. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- grade in the assignment to in order to pass the theory component of the module.
-good -- Good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. - Good ability in applying what is learned to a range of common and less common practice scenarios. - Good understanding of professional accountability issues. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria
-excellent -- Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. - Very good ability in applying what is learned to a range of common, less common and uniquely specific practice scenarios. - Very good understanding of professional accountability issues. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria.
Learning Outcomes
- Analyse and evaluate the principles and practice of cross sectional imaging
- Critically appraise radiographic images
- Evaluate the role of imaging methods in the diagnosis of disease and compare imaging methods in terms of cost/benefit to the patient
- Recognise normal variants and common pathologies on diagnostic images
- Understand and appreciate the legal and ethical considerations on producing a preliminary clinical comment within the context of delegated responsibility
